The Richmond Road Runners Club has established a scholarship
program for Richmond-area high school seniors involved in running
or related activities. RRRC is a non-profit organization dedicated
to promoting running for positive physical and mental health
benefits. This year the RRRC will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships
to students who have and will represent the beneficial aspects of
running as a healthy lifestyle. Each RRRC scholarship will be a
one-year, non-renewable award of $1,000. To be eligible, a student
must be:
1. A graduating high school senior who resides or attends school in
the Richmond area;
2. Accepted at an accredited institution of higher education;
3. Involved in running in some capacity (e.g., as a cross-country
or track team member, as a team manager or trainer, a member of a
running or track club, or volunteer in a running activity).
Scholarship applications may be filed by email or by standard
mail.
To apply for a Richmond Road Runners Club scholarship award,
students must submit the
all of the following:
1. A completed RRRC Scholarship Application Form
2. An essay (not to exceed one page) describing how and why the
applicant is involved with running and his or her planned future
involvement with running. Emphasis should be on overall
contribution to the sport of running, rather than individual
achievement.
3. A copy of the student’s acceptance letter from a college or
university
4. A letter of reference from someone involved in either high
school or Richmond area running specifically addressing the
applicant’s contributions to the running community.

or by standard mail to RRRC Scholarship Committee, c/o Chevy
Newell, 3215 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, VA 23225.
All applications and documentation must be received on or before
midnight, May 25, 2009.
All submitted documentation will become the property of the RRRC
and may be used or destroyed at the discretion of the Scholarship
Committee. Award selections will be made by the RRRC Scholarship
Committee which is solely responsible for the award. The winning
scholarship recipients will be notified no later than June 1, 2009.
The award will be paid directly to the student’s college or
university financial aid office.
