Women's Training

RRRC does not have a specific training program for women at this time. We do offer a monthly Women’s Skirt Run from Legend Brewing Company on the first Wednesday of every month. Click Here for Directions. This is a friendly group than runs about 30 minutes out to the flood wall and back. The run starts at 6:30. E-mail Cheri at membership@rrrc.org if you have any questions.

As a female runner, there are some things to consider while running. The first and most important is safety. The best way to be safe is to run with someone else. The club offers a number of group runs (found on the menu to the left) ranging from beginners groups to marathons. If you are new to town or running, consider posting a message on the message board asking if there is any one who wants to run with you. You would say something like “I live in the west end an am looking for someone to run Wednesday mornings. I run a nine minute mile and want to run about 3 miles.” Pick a neutral place to met first and try the person out. If it works out swap email addresses and you’ve found a running partner. If you do choose to run alone, run in areas where there are other people. A great place is down the median of Monument Ave. Be sure to tell someone where you will be running and when you will be back. Consider carrying a cell phone with you in a zip lock bag. Be sure to run against traffic. Richmond is a safe place to run but accidents do happen.

The second important thing to do is to set a goal of what you want to accomplish in your running. It could be lose weight, get fit, have fun, or whatever. When you go out for a run do it for a reason. You will feel much better afterwards when you have accomplished what you wanted to do. It’s ok to run with others but it’s your run, not theirs. Do what you want to do and enjoy it!
